No Qantas delays as strike postponedFriday May 16 12:01 PM

Engineers have backed down from planned industrial action that had been expected to delay Qantas flights today.

The airline had been planning to cancel some domestic flights this afternoon as the Australian Licensed Engineers Association (ALAEA) held four-hour stop work meetings from 2pm.

However, ACTU president Sharan Burrow has stepped in and asked the union to call off its four-hour stop-work meeting, according to an AAP report.

The engineers had indicated they would be willing to accept a rise somewhere in between the five per cent they demanded and the three per cent Qantas had continued to offer over the previous 18 months of failed wage negotiations, Ms Burrow said.

Ms Burrow said she would write to Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon, asking him to join wage negotiations at a meeting to be scheduled for next week.

The ALAEA has agreed to indefinitely postpone its planned action as a result of the latest move. - Travelpress travel news
