A disappearing paradise

Tuesday November 18 12:19 PM

Fancy a holiday in a secluded ecological paradise with white sand, blue waters and heaps of sea life? Better hurry, because it's disappearing under water.

Lately New Zealanders are packing their bags in record numbers for the Maldives, and due to demand Club Med Kani has extended its special 'second person stays for free' offer.

Kaarin Gaukrodger, Club Med Marketing Manager New Zealand says the 'two for the price of one' travel deal has turned a dream holiday destination into an affordable holiday choice.

"It's ideal for couples, especially honeymooners", she says.

Ms Gaukrodger says that Club Med Kani is enjoying a high profile with the New Zealand market and sales are up nearly 80 percent compared to the same time last year.

She adds that New Zealanders really should add visiting the Maldives to their 'must do' list.

"The Maldives is an unspoilt paradise and as the lowest lying nation in the world the Maldives unfortunately won't be around forever," she says.

The island is predicted to disappear under water within the next 100 years, and its President elect is already looking for suitable places around the world to relocate his people.

One of the Maldives' most popular resorts is Club Med Kani, nestled on its own private island and a short boat ride from the capital of Male.

"Kani is secluded and romantic and a popular honeymoon and couples destination," says Ms Gaukrodger.

Guests can enjoy the peaceful serenity of island life, try the water sports - diving, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, surfing, deep-sea fishing - or indulge in a traditional Balinese massage to relieve stress and tension.
