Holidays are on their way

Thursday June 18 04:12 PM

School holidays are coming! Next week marks the end of term two, and for the next fortnight your little treasures will be all yours again.

If you can't get that whole time off work, or you're just racking your brain for ideas to keep them occupied, here are some handy ideas.

Firstly, how about enrolling them in a school holiday programme? They offer a range of activities and your kids are fully-supervised throughout the day. There may still be places left in a programme near you.

Try your local YMCA - their programmes cater for 5-15 year olds and run 9-3 during the holidays.

Auckland-based Kidactive's programme offers everything from archery to watersports - including clown school and cheerleading.

Or check out this list of holiday programme providers around the country.

If you're home with the little ones and need a break, or some time to socialise with other parents, a supervised indoor playground like Lollipop's or Chipmunks could be just what you need. Your child can go nuts in the play area while you relax with a coffee - perfect on cold winter days.

Your local museum can be great for those rainy days too - look out for info on what exhibits they're currently running. You could even organise a treasure hunt in the museum - make a list of ten exhibits for your child to spot and get them to draw pictures of anything that catches their fancy.

And there's still time to plan for a family getaway this winter. Whether you're dreaming of a tropical escape or hitting the slopes, check out our destination guides for information and inspiration.
