Skiers and snowboarders are being warned not to use fraudulent passes in the wake of several people being sprung for dishonesty offences at Queenstowns ski areas.
Four people were caught using fraudulent passes on Sunday (August 16) at The Remarkables , with more caught at Coronet Peak topping off a week of vigilant lift operators catching offenders.
NZSki CEO James Coddington said the lifties were doing an “excellent job”.
“It’s that time of year when people are leaving town and thinking its ok to sell their passes. We want to tell people in no uncertain terms that it is not ok. We take this offending very seriously, are well aware of the different ways of defrauding passes and are very good at catching offenders,” he said.
“It is illegal to use passes fraudulently and when people are caught and fined or handed over to the police, it can ruin their holiday and life. It’s just not worth it.
“The vast majority of people use our facilities honestly, however some members of the public somehow think they don’t need to pay.”
“The lifties are efficient at catching fraudsters so we hope people will take this into consideration before illegally using fraudulent passes. If caught, the consequences range from paying a hefty on-the-spot fine to facing fraud charges,” he added.
