Rolling Rocks - 2010 Waikaka Cheese Rolling Dates Announced

Waikakas Whitestone Cheese Rolling NZ is set for Sunday 7 February 2010 on the Henderson family farm in Wendon Valley, 1131 Blackhill Road.

Major sponsor Whitestone Cheese is once again right behind the cheese rolling, donating a dozen huge 4 kg wheels of award-winning Windsor Blue cheese to be chased.
 
Launching the cheeses from the rocky hilltop will be a block-busting line-up of special guest celebrities including Otago Daily Times editor Murray Kirkness, local darling national ice skater Aimee Clement and major prize winner at Style Pasifika New Zealand Fashion Awards Andre Johnston (Tamblyn) - if she’s not too busy with new baby and design competitions.
 
Watch TV One The Breakfast Show on Wednesday 28 October at 7:30am to see 2009 Cheese Rolling champion Thomas Allan chatting with Tamati Coffey about the ins and outs of winning. Maybe Tamati will accept our invitation to return to Waikaka to be a guest celebrity on 7 February.
 
A Ranfurly Shield Roll is definitely on the programme, and who knows, maybe we’ll even get a bit of a hold of the log o’ wood while it’s spending the summer in sunny Southland.
 
As New Zealand’s national cheese rolling competition shapes up for its fifth annual rollout, organisers are pondering the future. The famous cheese rolling paddock is due to be ploughed later next year and may be out of action for some time. So if you haven’t yet made it to this rollicking good day out, do so on 7 February 2010.
 
This unique charity event raises funds to support families in Southland and Otago facing the challenge of autism.
