GreatSights New Zealand has announced it will be adding a new state-of-the-art coach to its Aoraki - Mt Cook route next month, which will bring the total number of brand new luxury vehicles added to its nationwide fleet in the last year to five.

From 01 November 2009, the new coach will transport passengers from Christchurch to some of the country’s renowned hydro dams, the blue waters of Lake Tekapo and to the largest mountain in New Zealand - the awe-inspiring Aoraki - Mt Cook.

The new coach is fully air conditioned, has GPS operated multi-lingual commentary, 53 spacious reclining seats, footrests, an on-board toilet, tinted windows, a DVD player. The coach also kneels on request for easy accessibility offering unparalleled comfort and a memorable experience.

The luxury coaches allow travellers to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the Aoraki – Mt Cook region as an expert driver guide delivers informative and entertaining commentary,” says GreatSights General Manager Coaching, Sam Peate.

The Aoraki – Mt Cook route is one of more than 30 daily GreatSights guided sightseeing tours that explore popular New Zealand attractions. These include tours to the stunning Bay of Islands , Rotorua , Martinborough, Christchurch, Queenstown, Milford Sounds and the West Coast glaciers, among others.

Late last year, GreatSights New Zealand, which is part of InterCity Group, introduced four brand new coaches - three in the Milford Sounds and one in the Bay of Islands. The addition of the new coach to the Mt Cook route brings the average age of the GreatSights touring fleet to under three years old.

We are committed to continually investing in and enhancing our fleet so our customers get the best New Zealand coaching experience in an environmentally responsible manner,” says Sam.

The introduction of this new coach means that we are continuing to lower our carbon emissions, and also providing even greater comfort to our passengers.

New Zealand has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world and it is important to us that our passengers get to enjoy the view in comfort and with professional driver guides that share our stories and bring our country to life.”

The coach is a 2009 420 horse power, Euro 4 engine Scania, built by Kiwi Coach Builders in Christchurch.
