This is a country where you will be invigorated by contrast - from the awesomely rugged to the quaintly archaic, England will live up to some of your expectations while exploding others at the same time. You can take on activities as extreme as surfing or as gentle as dolloping clotted cream on a quivering scone.
London CallingFirst of all, a word of warning: no matter how long you spend in England, there will also be something extra you want to see. Accept it. In reality, where you go will depend on your transport, time constraints and money in your pocket. But let's say you have just a week in England. Base yourself in London, and check out the swinging city's highlights, spending a few days taking in the major galleries and some good coffee in Soho. Stud your London week with a day trip to Brighton for a bit of 'oh I do like to be beside the seaside' with a bohemian slant, as well as quick trips to Bath and Oxford, maybe including a glimpse of Wells or the Cotswolds as well. Don't overdo it - make sure you see a good bit of the renowned English country life and a slice or two of English city life.
